How to Walk in Your God Given Destiny

One of the key verses in my destiny is a verse found in Romans. When I first saw it, it gave me much direction as to what to do with my life. Let's have a look at it.

Romans 12:6 (New King James Version) 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith;

As I had the gift of prophecy the LORD God had me open up a website where I would offer free personal prophecies to strangers over the web. God was with the website from the start to finish and built my team of prophetic people and grew the amount of visitors to the website. With over a year of delivering personal prophecies over the web I became very confident to prophesying to total strangers over the web.

As a prophet, one of my strongest gifts is the gift of prophecy, but it isn't my only gift and the LORD is interested in me pursuing experience in all my gifts.

The verse above starts then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us. The idea of destiny would have to start with the gifts that Jesus Christ and the LORD God have seen fit to give you. One has to have a good look at their life and ask friends and get some research into what gifts that one is good at.

It's not just the Gifts of the Spirit that are being referred to here in this verse I am sure. I am sure Paul is talking about all the talents that the LORD has given us in this verse. If you're a singer, the LORD most probably wants you to sing and bring Him glory with your voice. If you're a Baker, perhaps the LORD wants you to bake bread and be a very good witness to your work colleagues and a man devoted to the word of God and perhaps a small group leader. You may have a gift for speaking, perhaps the LORD wants you to preach in the future, perhaps you may want to study in your spare time and prepare sermons that you know you could preach.

I remember at about fourteen years of age I knew that I wanted to speak in the future to people about Jesus. I knew at that young age that I wanted to preach. I am only forty and as of writing I have only preached to a live audience on two occasions. As of writing I have written 260 articles that are sometimes a sermon and many thousands of people are reading them online. I am firmly established in two churches and I can see my speaking opportunities coming in the future. I have in my memory and written prophecies about ten prophecies that say I am going to speak and change my nation of Australia and beyond. In fact at the age of fourteen in was a Pentecostal Baptist minister who said I was going to preach in the future.

If you looked at my life right now, with no job, with no real assets, no car, no house in my name, and not a very great reputation among men my life would look like a failure and to people that didn't believe in the power and authority of personal prophecy it would seem that I am dreaming and my head is in the clouds. It would seem my life has been a waste. My life is like Joseph in the Old Testament who was told in a dream he would be powerful and his brothers would bow to him, dejected and sitting in a prison cell wondering if it was just a dream, or it really was going to be his future. But God is into dreams and if your heart is firmly focused on him He is only too willing to make your dreams come true. Psalm 37:4 (New King James Version)

4 Delight yourself also in the LORD,

And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Do you delight yourself in the LORD God of the Bible? That is the key to this verse. It is the people that delight in the LORD that He gives to them the desires of their heart. My desire is to write books and travel and preach and both of these desires I am sure the LORD is interested in. At the moment the LORD is busy refining me in the fire and carving and establishing my fruits of the Spirit with adversity. The current trial that I am in is building in me rock solid faith.

Are you having trials?

James says this about trials.

James 1:2-4 (New King James Version)

2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. Do you want to be complete? Do you want good fruit of the Spirit? And have your personality not lacking?

Well trials are the way that you are going to grow into this sort of person. Sure, they are not fun to endure at the time you are in them, but as Jesus looked forward to what He was going to accomplish on the cross, it filled His heart with the strength to endure the trial before Him. So too, when we are in a trial if we concentrate on what God is going to achieve in us through the trial well then we an have some comfort in the fact that we are going to be better people.

I am aware that many of you who are reading this have no idea as to what their destiny is. One good way to find your destiny is found in your deepest dreams and desires. What do you want to do?

If you have a look at my life, a good honest look, it would seem impossible without formal training at a Bible college that I might be raised up to be an International speaker which my personal prophecies talk about. But God is a dreamer and if you have read the Bible, you can be sure He gets more glory from ordinary men doing extraordinary things through faith in Him. He delights in the untrained preaching for Paul writes, 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 (New King James Version)

26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence.

This verse demonstrates that God is His wisdom uses the fools like me to bring profound truths to the people of the world. In this way God alone gets the glory rather then the education that the person has.

One of the best places to work out who you are and the right occupation for yourself is in a book called, "Please understand me" by David Kersley. In it is a a personality test and you can find out your personality and it in the book is suggests the occupations that your temperament is best suited to. I cannot suggest this book highly enough, it had a complete and radical effect in my life and re-affirmed that I am a gifted communicator.

When you work out what your gifts are and your dream is take it to the LORD in prayer and get his confirmation by peace in your heart.

Then go for it. Do what it takes to get there.

Like me, the steps might not be as clear as step one, two, three. But you can get step one and go to work on that and by the time you are finished the second step will be made evident to you.

God bless you.
